"What a superb collection: I think the Antarctic trip has given your voice even greater depth.

"One of the things I have enjoyed most about your work is the underlying structure. The painting may look detailed but the strength comes from the disposition of bolder shape and tone. This is more readily apparent now in the antarctic landscapes which are abstracts of real power.  My special favourite is the gestural mark of Anvers Island - then there's Heading towards the Erebus and Terror Gulf: it is interesting to see how well you have used the punctuation of the ice channels in the composition and transformed the information in the sketch into fine art. I have always said that good landscape artists should be prepared to move mountains!

"It is good that the SWLA has yet another towering president of whom we are all proud. Congratulations - and thank you."
